Location: Newport, Wales
Kate Mercer works across a range of media including photographs, video and collage, exploring cultural uses of photography, particularly human relationships with memory, identity and perception. Using found and self-sourced imagery as starting points, her work explores the role of photography as document and self-constructed record.
Her work is held in both private and public collections including that of Amgueddfa Cymru (National Museum Wales in Cardiff). She continues to develop and exhibit work on funded projects throughout Wales and the UK.
Between 2017 and 2019, she taught the Photographing People module for Ffotogallery – Wales’ national development agency for photography and lens based media based in Cardiff.
Along with fellow artist and photographer Sarah Goodey, Kate is co-organiser of Celf Ar Y Bryn Casnewydd / Art On The Hill Newport– an open house and open studio arts trail on the west side of Newport, showcasing work by local artists in the community in association with residents, businesses and micro art centres in the area. She is a member of PHRAME and helps run the promo-hour #ARTSNEWYDD as a part of Newport CAN
